When Mrs Hall, Elm Ridge Elementary's art teacher retires, Caleb is nervous about the new teacher, Mrs Detraz. Matthew is eager to jump in to her new, more colorful ways of teaching with a group abstract oil pastel drawing, while Caleb doesn't like working on colored pencil drawings, and misses the graphite pencil drawings they did in Mrs Hall's class. After a few weeks in Mrs Detraz's class, however, Caleb realizes exactly how much fun different types of art can be.
